Shakespear in his Henry V. and Winter's story; Milton in his Samson Agonistes; Sandys in his Christ's ardour; and the overdue Duke of Buckingham in his Tragedies from the Julius Caesar of our Shakespear, and others. The Mimes and Pantomimes crept in, and shov'd out those antient Chorus's; a few have been free and wanton Mimics, that the Roman luxurious too good lik'd; others have been extra respectable, who by way of motion and Gesture might describe a narrative with out talking, in all its number of Passions.

Extrait : Venez, illusions ! .. .. au matin de ma vie,Que j’aimais à fixer votre inconstant essor ! Le soir vient, et pourtant c’est une douce envie,C’est une vanité qui me séduit encore.
